Trip to Copper Canyon

WEKU and Collette Vacations are partnering on a 8 day Copper Canyon adventure. The trip begins May 17th, 2009 with a flight from Lexington to Tucson, AZ where we will meet for welcome dinner before beginning our journey the next day.  Highlights of the trip include:

Sightseeing at the Mission of San Xavier del Bac in Tucson

A trip across the Mexican border through the Sonoma Desert to the Sea of Cortez and San Carlos

Traveling the Chihuahua – Pacifico Railroad through scenic portions of Copper Canyon and an overnight stay at the Hotel Posada Mirador on the rim of the canyon.  Spend a day experiencing the beauty of the Canyon and its native culture

A trip to Creel, one of the largest cities in the canyon sitting 7,874 feet above sea level!

The  cost of the trip is $2,229 (double occupancy)  and includes air, hotel, and 18 meals.

This is the 5th time we have partnered with Collette Vacations and our travelers will testify to the first class treatment they have received. Tour guides are employees of Collette but most are residents of or natives of the region they represent.  The company prides itself on expert trip planning to make your vacation memorable and hassle free from beginning to end.

WEKU’s 40th Birthday

WEKU is planning it’s 40th birthday which begins September 30, 2008. We would like for you to help us plan our party by letting us know the kind of things that you think would be interesting as well as fun for the WEKU family of listeners. For example – is there an NPR personality that you would like to meet? Is there a trip that you would like to see us sponsor? Maybe you have thought of an event that would be suitable for us to host. Help us with our brainstorming and let’s plan a celebration that will last the entire year.

New shows, Radio Lab and Leroy Anderson

First of all, I hope everyone had an awesome Indie Day weekend and got some time to enjoy the new program lineup. Feel free to comment on it – that’s what this blog is for.

In the last post, we got the question, “What happened to Radio Lab?”

I originally posted this as a comment in response, but thought it warranted a post of its own just for those who have the same question as the original commenter:

Radio Lab is a limited series — there are only 5 episodes in each season. So far, there have been 4 seasons and we’ve repeated each season a couple of times.
I can’t make any guarantees right now, but there’s a good chance we’ll keep airing it as more seasons come out. Season 5 is due to be released in November.
Meanwhile, you can hear any episodes you’ve missed or want to hear again here – http://www.wnyc.org/shows/radiolab/

On another note (I know, terrible pun… hehe), I was curious after the Leroy Anderson Tribute special we aired Friday and went to the Leroy Anderson website -

http://www.leroyanderson.com

It’s a pretty neat place with photos, a biography, and even a playable (!) catalog of his music. If you enjoyed that special, this might be a good place for you to stop by. :)

One last thing — Starting tonight, we’re airing an extra hour of All Things Considered. The World is on at 7:00.
